Forensic Evaluations

I have specialized training in Forensic Psychology, which is a specialized area of practice that applies the science and profession of psychology to questions relating to the law and legal system.  My training includes a post-doctoral residency at Saint Elizabeths hospital in Washington, DC, which is a maximum security forensic psychiatric hospital treating individuals adjudicated Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity, Incompetent to Stand trial, and involuntary civil commitments.  I received training from forensic psychologists in a range of evaluations relevant for criminal and civil proceedings, including Criminal Responsibility, Competency to Stand Trial, Violence Risk Assessments, Sexual Violence Risk Assessments, Discharge planning, and Civil Commitment.  I also participated in didactic seminars focused on legal statues/landmark cases guiding the practice of psychology in forensic settings was a part of research in this area.  I additionally supervised practicum students in psychotherapy and psychological assessment provided clinical services to the patient population.

Prior to my training as a post-doctoral resident at Saint Elizabeths, I completed a year long APA-accredited internship at Saint Elizabeths with a focus on developing clinical skills in psychotherapy and psychological assessment with population of individuals experiencing symptoms of serious and persistent mental illness.  I also received supervision from forensic psychologists with a focus on forensic neuropsychology, which is the use of neuropsychological assessment measures to aid in forensic decision making. I also completed a  year long practicum placement at the Center for Forensic Psychiatry in Milan, Michigan prior to internship, which is a maximum security forensic psychiatric hospital with a focus on evaluation and treatment of individuals adjudicated Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity and Incompetent to Stand Trial.

I also have experience and training in forensic neuropsychology, which is the use of neuropsychological testing to answer psycho-legal questions such as civil capacity, guardianship, TBI claims, and post-trial evaluations.  I also have experience teaching doctoral-level courses in forensic neuropsychology and have supervised research in this domain.  Additionally, I have experience providing psychological and neuropsychological evaluations for children and adolescent navigating issues related to special education services secondary to a diagnosis that may require the need of these services, such as a learning disability.  More specifically, I have provided evaluations and testimony on a number of cases in which a school district was denying the provision of special education services to students.
